An Article’s Advice

I recently read an article about the best and worst career choices as of right now. Basically, it said that the things I am interested in doing (digital design, video production) are some of the worst college majors one could pick.

It makes me wonder if I will actually be happy in the future with the career that I have chosen. I still have time to change my mind, but I don’t really see that happening. The best career options these articles list have to do with computer science, management, administration, and healthcare.

Probably the safest way to choose a secure job is to think of either what is growing in popularity, or what is never going away. For example, anything about computers is on the top of most lists, because that is the future. And we’ll always need nurses and doctors around, unless those become computers eventually too.

This article only rated these careers based on the average earnings and the unemployment rate. While these are technically very valuable in choosing a career, I don’t think that these two things are the most important. I would want to have a job that makes me excited to go to work every day. I would want to create something that makes me and other people happy, instead of working behind a desk all the time.

So while money is extremely important in our society, I think that people should think of their happiness first when it comes to their career choice. You don’t want to get stuck in a career you’re unhappy with.
