Review of Midsummer/Jersey
November 6, 2014
The fall play this year is Midsummer/Jersey by Ken Ludwig. It is a comedic rendition of Shakespeare’s Midsummer’s Night Dream. It has all the same details as Shakespeare has intended but is set in modern day New Jersey. The 2 act long play is roughly 2 hours long. It starts in present time but the rest of the play is being told 6 years ago.
There was plenty of cheetah print, hair bumps, and leather. There was party scenes (with taylor swift music) and plenty of tom foolery. If you haven’t read the play, it didn’t matter. It was so easy to understand without prior knowledge.
You have to be impressed by the amount of talent that the actors have. They spend roughly 2 hours doing a Jersey accent for 3 nights in a row. The fact that they have the courage to even get on stage, but also be able to hold an accent the whole time. The dialogue was witty and had a fun rhyme scheme. They interacted with the audience and seem totally relatable!
Its was a nice way to spend 2 hours with friends and relax. You got to see amazing acting with a fun script and was totally free with a student I.D.! The play was a must see!
