Shootings at Overland Park Jewish Community Centers

On Sunday afternoon, three people were killed after two shootings, one at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City in Overland Park, off of 115th and Nall, and the other at Village Shalom, an assisted senior living facility on 123rd street. One person is undergoing surgery at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

The FBI is working with the Overland Park police department, who already have a suspect in custody. It was reported the suspect yelled, “Heil Hitler” while being lead away by police after being arrested at a local elementary school about a mile away from Village Shalom. (source)

At the time of the shooting, the community center was holding audition for a youth ballot recital. The theater that held around 75 youth at the time was placed on lock down.

Representative Kevin Yoder stated that he was “heartbroken to learn of the senseless shootings.”

“Brooke and I send our prayers and thoughts to the families and victims of this tragedy and our office stands ready to provide any needed assistance,” Yoder said. (source)
