KC Chiefs Free Agency Needs

The Kansas City Chiefs are in looking to pick up more players during the off season. Free agency list is loaded with impact players. Here is a link to a full list of free agents in the NFL.

Who are the Chiefs un-signed free agents?

OT Branden Albert, G Geoff Schwartz, G Jon Asamoah, WR Dexter McCluster, WR Kyle Williams, LB Akeem Jordan, DE Tyson Jackson, S Kendrick Lewis, DB Husain Abdullah, DB Quintin Demps.

  • Brandon Albert is expected to sign with the Dolphins.
  • Geoff Schwartz has been linked to many other teams. It seems that he will be leaving.
  • Same with Jon Asamoah, who has several suitors, including the Falcon and Jets.
  • Dexter McCluster is NOT expected to return to the Chiefs.
  • Kyle Williams has interest from at least five other teams. But I wouldn’t expect him to sign right away with his ACL injury, which is expected to be healed before the season opener.
  • Akeem Jordan has been linked to five other teams. Not sure if the Chiefs will keep him.
  • Tyson Jackson was said to be talking to the Chiefs. No other teams of interest known.

Are the Chiefs going to resign any of there own guy’s?

There are no obvious signs that they are going to re-sign any of their remaining free agents. With some players, such as Geoff Schwartz or Jon Asamoah, the Chiefs could be waiting to see where the market prices them. Others, such as Jordan, Abdullah or Demps, may not sign in the first few days of free agency.

What are the Chiefs top needs?

Starters

  • Free safety: Someone to replace Kendrick Lewis. Plus safety depth with Husain Abdullah and Quintin Demps both being free agents. Some think this could be addressed in free agency.
  • Guard: It’s looking like the Chiefs could lose both Geoff Schwartz and Jon Asamoah. Backups Rishaw Johnson and Rok Watkins are unknowns. Many Chiefs didn’t include this as a need early on because we figured Schwartz or Asamoah would be re-signed.
  • Wide receiver: Dexter McCluster is gone and receiver wasn’t a strength to begin with. You have to wonder about Donnie Avery’s roster spot if the Chiefs pick up another receiver. The Chiefs say they expect big things out of AJ Jenkins.
  • Defensive end: If Tyson Jackson doesn’t come back, the Chiefs need a starter.
  • Inside linebacker: Starter Akeem Jordan is a free agent.
