I sat down with our newest art teacher Mr. Erker to ask him some information about his life.

Q:Erker… that’s an odd name, how do you pronounce it?

A:  Just like how its spelt, Erk-er.

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: A very small town right outside of Wichita. Wellington, Ks.

Q: What was your first job?

A: I was a lifeguard at the local pool.

Q: What was your favorite class in school?

A: Art.

Q: When did you get into art?

A: When I was about six, my parents would hire private art tutors.

Q: Where did you go to college?

A: I got a bachelors at KU and am working towards my masters at UMKC

Q: What did you major in?

A: Bachelors of fine arts and art education with a specification in painting and drawing.

Q: Where did you teach before West?

A: Ascension Private School, I was there for five years.

Q: Are you responsible for anything at West?

A: I’m the Tech Director for theatre.

Q: How did you get into Tech?

A: I was in several theatre productions in high school and college; I also helped with set design.
