Feining for Physics with Mr.Taylor

There are some pretty amazing teachers here at West that some of us never even get
the chance to meet! I sat down with Mr.Taylor, the Physics teacher here at West, and asked him a few questions about himself.

Q: What’s your full name?
A: John Webster Emmanuel Taylor, IV

Q: Where did you grow up?
A: Kansas city, Missouri. In the Brookside/Waldo area.

Q: Where did you got to high school?
A: I went to Lincoln College Prep. at 22nd and Paseo.

Q: Were you involved in any clubs or sports?
A: Not very much, I did a few quiz game competitions though.

Q: What was your favorite thing about high school?
A: When I started driving.

Q: Where did you go to college?
A: I went to Creighton in Omaha, Nebraska for college, and KU for grad school.

Q: What did you major in?
A: At Creighton I did a double major in Physics and Latin, and Education at KU.

Q: What made you want to become a teacher?
A: I decided that the most likely way for me to make a real contribution tO Science was this way.

Q: What is your favorite thing about being a teacher?
A: I like the idea of trying to get other people to be more like me.

Q: How long have you been teaching?
A: I’ve taught for about 5 and a half years.

Q:Where all have you taught?
A: West and the KCMO Juvenile Detention Center.

Q: What subjects do you teach?
A: I teach three levels of Physics here, and I taught math at the J.D.C.

Q: How long have you been teaching here at West?
A: 4 years, counting this one.

Q: Are you involved in any clubs here?
A: Robotics.

Q: What do you guys do?
A: Build a robot.

Q: How did you acquire the title of NHS Teacher of the Year?
A: It was voted on by the Seniors currently in NHS.

Q: What was your reaction to recieving this title?
A: I was pretty surprised. I thought they were coming to tap a student, so I made them wait outside until we finished taking a test.

Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: I collect old video games, and there’s a coffee shop in Westport I spend a lot of time at.

Q: What’s your favorite color?
A: Blue.

Q: What’s your favorite animal?
A: Gladys.

Q: If you could meet anyone, alive or dead, who would it be and why?
A: Either Steven Hawking or David Bowie. They both completely changed their fields.
