I may have dozed off during one or two of Mr. Walker’s American history lectures but the last time I checked the great American civil war leader wasn’t a vampire slayer on the side.
“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” starts off with a young Abe, played by Benjamin Walker, who witnessed the murder of his mother by a vampire. Seeking revenge, the early president teams up with Henry Sturgess (Dominic Cooper.) Henry teaches Lincoln the skills it takes to slay the undead.
Abe then moves to Springfield; takes a job as a store clerk, studies law, and becomes a vampire hunter by night. With that busy schedule Lincoln still has time for love, and marries Mary Todd. When Lincoln figures out vampires are fighting with the Confederate forces he then runs for election and becomes our 16th President.
For moviegoers that are looking for a satirical thriller, you may be in for a surprise. Even though the movie is not for the weak stomached, it has the perfect combination of romance, action and, of course, correct historical content. The action scenes are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. The vampires may not be as dreamy as Twilight’s Edward Cullen, but “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” is sure to entertain.
