SM South’s leading scorers this year are Calvin Freeman and Marcelo Regis, both senior forwards, with three goals apiece. Friday, Sep. 27
Football-at Lawrence Free State (7 PM-LFS)
After last Friday’s spectacular finish versus Lawrence, West football takes on the undefeated Lawrence Free State Firebirds. These teams met twice last year, Free State winning the first battle 28-14, and SM West winning the second game, 48-21. Both of these teams played close games last Friday. SM West defeated Lawrence on a game winning touchdown pass from A.J. Verdini to Andre Maloney with under a minute remaining. The extra point put West in front, and they held on to win 14-13. Free State was up by 8 late in the 4th quarter on Olathe East, but gave up a running touchdown late. They made the two-point conversion stop to win the game however, 28-26. This should be a classic.
Saturday, Sep. 28

This is cross country’s third meet this year (Greg Wilson Classic, Baldwin Invitational). It takes place in Lawrence, KS, where they usually run the Kansas state meet. It is known for its covered bridge over water in the middle of the race.
