As spring sports are rapidly beginning soccer all star, Sydney Miramontez talks about her excitement for this upcoming season. “I see us doing well in league and becoming stronger as the season progresses,” Miramontez said. The soccer program at Shawnee Mission West has been very successful in the past years. In 2011 West’s soccer team went to be the Kansas 6A State Runner-up. Girls soccer at Shawnee Mission West lives up to their name and never strays far from greatness.

Many girls on the team have been in playing soccer since they could run and then made to decision to go on to the high school level. “I’ve been on varsity for three years and have started all three years,” Miramontez said. Sydney will be moving on the Nebraska girl’s soccer next year in college. Many of the girls on the team plan on moving onto the colligate level. Emily Franchett, junior, is going to the University of Central Missouri to play on their girl’s soccer team.

This year’s team has been playing with each other for most of high school and has a great time playing together. “I have a great time with all the girls and most have us have played together so it makes the team a lot closer,” Miramontez said. “My favorite part about the games is that it is an outlet for me to get rid of frustration and get a good workout,”Miramontez said. As many girls would agree they are excited for this upcoming season and what successes lie ahead.

Their first game is this Thursday, March 14 at Blue Valley North at Blue Valley District Athletic Complex at 6:00 pm. Come support your Shawnee Mission West girl’s soccer team!
