Black Friday Survival Kit

Black+Friday+Survival+Kit

It’s Thanksgiving day, and that means only one thing for bargain hunters: Black Friday is here.

Black Friday will be bigger than ever this year with large retail companies such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, Macy’s, Old Navy, and Kohl’s opening doors at midnight, or even 10:00 p.m. Thanksgiving night, as opposed to previous 6:00 a.m. Friday mornings.

One Shawnee Mission West students plans to hit up local retail stores for great deals such as a free Kodak Easyshare Sport Waterproof Digital Camera with a purchase of $40 or more at Old Navy or a $150 dollar Xbox 360 with Kinect from Wal-Mart ($100 off + $50 Wal-Mart gift card).

Sarah Hinman, junior, says that spending $40 at Old Navy won’t be too hard for her with sweaters starting at $15, and hoodies starting at $9. She plans to head to local stores as soon as 9:00 p.m. Thanksgiving day to start camping out for the best deals.

“Black Friday is probably one of my favorite fluff holidays,” said Hinman. “It has no historical significance and [it] officially kicks off the gift giving season.”

Hinman plans to hit up stores such as Old Navy and Gap Thanksgiving night.

“While I’m not a complete nut like the Target Christmas champ, and I’m not going to sing a parody of Rebecca Black’s Friday, I will be out and about Thanksgiving night,” said Hinman.

Hinman is one of the few who will be braving the crowds and craziness of other customers tonight. Some stores, such as Wal-Mart have actually seen deaths from crazy Black Friday shoppers. In 2008, over 200 shoppers trampled and killed a 34-year-old man after breaking down the doors to the store.

While some of the shoppers are crazy, many customers see the deals as too good to pass up. Some of the greatest deals will come from national retail companies such as Best Buy, Old Navy and Target.

Best Buy will be featuring a Gateway laptop with a 15.6” display and an Intel Core i3 processor for an unprecedented $329 as well as a Nintendo Wii gaming system with a Super Mario Bros. game included for a mere $99.

Old Navy will be sporting $5 t-shirts as well as $8 blouses in addition to their $15 sweaters and the free digital camera mentioned earlier.

Target will have the Amazon Kindle keyboard 3G in white or graphite for $85. The Kindle can hold over 3500 books and has a battery life of over two months. It can also download books in over 60 countries using its free 3G coverage.

Best Buy, as well as other stores, will have online only sales which will showcase deals that can’t be found in stores.

To be the smartest Black Friday Shopper, be sure to do your research and check out our links to some of the best deals below. To ensure you’ll receive the best door busters, be sure to arrive at least two to three hours before store opening. Keep in mind that temperatures are expected to reach 43°F and that supplies are limited on all of these deals.
