Winter Sports Recap

Winter+Sports+Recap

As spring sports begin and winter sports come to a conclusion, we recap the seasons of four winter sports.

First off, boy’s basketball advanced past the first sub state game for the first time since the 2007-08 season. The boys finished off with a final record of 10-12, including huge wins at SM Northwest as well as Olathe Northwest and SM South. Six seniors led the team, although only three were left healthy at the end of the season. The boys run ended in the sub state final against highly talented and eventual state runners up Blue Valley Northwest.

Then of course there was girl’s basketball. Six seniors, combining for a highly experienced group, led the team. The team was a dominant force, winning the Sunflower League along with Olathe South. They went onto lead an incredible run in the state tournament falling just short in a heartbreaking last second loss in the final against Wichita Heights 53-51.

Another sport that went on during the winter season was wrestling. The team dealt with various injuries but ended with a solid season. The team qualified two wrestlers for state including freshman, Garrison Coker. The young squad looks forward to a successful season next year.
