Effective for the 2011-2012 year, Shawnee Mission schools will now adopt the uniform schedule for all to follow. A shift towards fewer block classes will help the ultimate goal of lowering budget costs. East, North, Northwest, South and West took up the Northwest schedule as a suitable compromise. The decision was made official around the beginning of January.

WPA (Women Pay All) talk is in the air as students participate in the traditional annual Heart of the West week.

Monday- Twin Day

Tuesday- Decade Day: Freshman- 70’s, Sophomores- 50’s, Juniors- 70’s, Seniors- 80’s

Thursday- Jers(ey) Day

Sponsored by StuCo, a matchmaker compatibility quiz was given to students in early February to have the opportunity to discover who their significant other or friends of any grade could be. Sold at $5, the money was then donated to SMAC, a foundation to aid needy students in the Shawnee Mission area.

Also sold were roses on behalf of Health Careers February 1st-10th to be handed out seventh block on Valentine’s Day. Prices: 1- $2, 2- $5, 3- $8, 4- $12

Friday, the varsity boy’s basketball team will then face off at home (7:00) versus Shawnee Mission South. During halftime, the 2011 WPA royalty will be announced to lead into the Sweetheart dance Saturday. Students attending will be able to enjoy a night out “Under the Sea.”
