Review: “DC4”

Chris Lipford, Writer

Meek Mill has been teasing his fourth installment of the dreamchasers mixtapes since spring 2016.  On October 28th, “DC4” (dreamchasers 4) was released to the public.  Other fans and I have been looking forward to this mixtape since the very first teaser.  Meek and others have released snippets to help promote and hype up loyal fans.

The tape features big names in the industry such as Lil Uzi Vert, Nicki Minaj, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Quavo, Pusha T, and many more.  Some of my favorite songs on the mixtape are “Litty”, “Froze”, “Offended”, and “Blue Notes”.

“Litty” is the third track on the mixtape and helps set the tone as a fun upbeat track.  Tory Lanez is featured on this track and brings his own style to the song with a great verse and hook.

“Froze” is the fifth track on this mixtape and it features Lil Uzi Vert and Nicki Minaj.  Lil Uzi Vert starts off the song right with a straight fire beat.  Meek has a nice verse, but the only bad part about the song is Nicki’s part. She has some weak lyrics and overall ends the song badly.  Even though there is one weak verse, the song is still one of the best on the album and is definitely a banger.

“Offended” features some of my favorite artists Young Thug and 21 Savage.  This song is no doubt a banger. Thugger and 21 provide some great verses and a great hook.  By far, “Offended” is the best song on the album.

“Blue Notes” provides a lighter mood to the tape.  It is a slower song, but it still stays engaging.  Meek keeps the lyrics coming fast and delivers a good message as well.  For once, the lyrics are actually meaningful in this song and that is why I like it.  It sticks out because of its slower beat and provides a break from all the fast and upbeat songs throughout the mix already.

“DC4” is one of Meek’s better tapes, but still not my favorite of his.  I enjoy just about all of the songs and I will continue to listen to this mix for a while.
