The week leading up to the game the buzz around school was obvious.
“They hate us and we hate them” senior, Billy Robbins said.
As the game came nearer the more excited the school became. As the game started the tension between the two schools boiled over. The first three quarters were back and forth with the score at the end of the third quarter 14-14.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter when the Vikings unleashed their fury you could feel the momentum shift. As the defense stopped the Lancers from scoring the whole quarter, A.J. Verdini lead the Vikings offense to 17 more points.
The final score of the game was 31-14 as the Vikings came out on top and take home the coveted “Nut Cup”. With the win the Vikings move to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the Sunflower League. In the last decade the Vikings have dominated the rivalry (9-1). This Friday night the Vikings take on Shawnee Mission Northwest at Shawnee Mission North for the last regular season game.
