Ice Skating Rinks

Tricia Byram & Michaela Tarwater

KCIC-

KCIC is located in Shawnee Mission and has public sessions multiple times each month throughout the year. It is open all year around depending on the weather if it is cold enough they will have the sessions in their outside pavilion but when it is warmer they have it in their inside pavilion which is kept cold so they can have ice skating all through the year. For ages 4-Seniors (60) it is an 8 dollar admission and 4 dollar skate rental. For ages 4 and under it is free admission and skate rental. For seniors it is 4 dollar skate rental. They also do skating lessons. Every first and third friday every month from 1:45-2:45 home schooled skaters with their parents can get lessons. For ages 5 and older it is 3 dollars and parents are free. And then there are other skating lessons that vary in price range depending on if you want to do it for six weeks, less or more. They have kids hockey and adult hockey also available as well as birthday parties. KCIC is a place for every one even if you are just starting at skating or have been doing it for awhile.

Crown Center-

Crown Center Ice Rink is $6 for everyone, except seniors and children 4 and under, who are free. Skate rentals cost $3, so the combined total would be around $9. On Two-for-One Tuesdays, after 5 p.m., pay one full price admission and receive a second for free! The skate rental fee isn’t waived however, but three dollars is better than nine dollars. There usually aren’t too many “professional” skaters skating around, so don’t be worried about the hockey players knocking you off your balance. Crown Center Ice Rink has a great atmosphere and is very popular among West students. Crown Center Ice Rink closes down March 11, 2018, for the season. With Crown Center just 100 feet away, so food is available before you skate or after!

Park Place-

Admission is $8 for everyone, and skate rentals are $3. Receive $1 off your admission when you bring a canned or non-perishable food item for the Jewish Family Services Community Food Pantry. Every Tuesday students can get a half price discount if they show their student ID. “The Ice” will close on February 19th, but is open on holidays such as Valentine’s Day and President’s Day. There are a large number of restaurants around the area, and most are open until 6pm. This rink isn’t as popular with West students, but it is popular with Leawood teens and Blue Valley students.
