1. Pretty in Pink (1986)

Although this list is in no particular order of best to worst, the “Pretty in Pink” soundtrack is my personal favorite of the list. Being an 80’s pop culture geek, this movie totally fits in with the 80’s aesthetic. This soundtrack features classic alternative music, including artists like New Order, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Smiths, and of course the group that sings the famous song with a parallel title to the movie, the Psychedelic Furs.

2. Pulp Fiction (1994)

The Pulp Fiction soundtrack is definitely unique, especially because it includes tracks that are only dialogue segments from the movie, but it also wields many other great tunes.  “Jungle Boogie” by Kool & the Gang, “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green, and “Lonesome Town” by Ricky Nelson are all outstanding, along with many others. One thing that is great about this movie soundtrack in particular, is that it includes music across all genres.

3. Almost Famous (2000)

Set in the 1970’s, this movie follows a 15 year old boy who is a shameless music fanatic. The flick features songs by popular artists from the 60’s and 70’s like Led Zeppelin, Simon and Garfunkel, David Bowie and The Who.  

4. Stand By Me (1986)

This movie is an american classic, and the soundtrack ties in perfectly with the plot of a group of friends going on a memorable adventure. This tracklist has dreamy tunes of the 1950’s, like “Lollipop” by the Chordettes, and “Every Day” by Buddy Holly, and also includes the timeless song that is always associated with the movie, “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King.

5. The Little Mermaid (1989)

This particular Disney flick includes many catchy and fun to sing along to tunes that anyone who’s seen the movie can recognize. Featuring songs like “Under the Sea” and “Part of your World”, The Little Mermaid soundtrack is probably Disney’s best.

6. Saturday Night Fever (1977)

Even if the plot of this film may seem a little cheesy, the soundtrack is full of disco hits. Disco may not be your favorite genre, but the catchy sound of the Bee Gees is enough to make anyone want to dance.

7. Dazed and Confused (1993)

The Dazed and Confused soundtrack is one that will most likely be enjoyed by fans of the Hard Rock genre. This soundtrack includes music from Alice Cooper, KISS, Ozzy Osbourne, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath and many other rock artists. The music featured in this film fits in well with the carefree, fun vibe that the movie puts out.

8. Drive (2011)

Electronic music is not generally what comes to mind when thinking of a crime film, but the poppy, computerized sounds that accompany the movie Drive seem so right. The fast-paced beats give a feeling of intensity, that will make you sit on the edge of your seat in anticipation of what is going to happen next.

9. Napoleon Dynamite (2004)

Consisting of a mix of 80’s pop classics and original compositions by Jon Swihart, the Napoleon Dynamite soundtrack is perfectly curated mix for the eccentric film. Napoleon Dynamite contains all of the best 80’s high school stereo types rolled into one film, and the music is no exception.
