American Horror Story: Coven

“American Horror Story, a horror television show on FX, began its third season on Wednesday, October 9. Since each season is described as “a self contained miniseries”, the newest plot line was introduced. With the two former seasons surrounding around a haunted house and an asylum, this season takes place in present day and introduces a coven of witches.

I’ve been an avid fan of American Horror Story since the very first episode of the first season. With standout stars such as Jessica Lange, Taissa Farmiga, and Zachary Quinto, the first season received positive reviews and over 35 nominations for various awards. Following the plot line of a family that moves into an old house, they soon discover the house is haunted and the story line follows the troubles they have there. With the second season came the introduction of a mental asylum in the 1960’s.

Despite the fact I was relatively disappointed with second season, I was still excited for the return of the third season. With cast members from the previous two season such as Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, and Lily Rabe, and Taissa Farmiga returning from season one, I was hopefully as to what this season could bring. Two episodes in, and creators/writers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have not disappointed. New actors such as Kathy Bates and Emma Roberts have been introduced, and with a dynamic setting in New Orleans, Louisiana, I couldn’t be more excited to see what the rest of the season brings.

“American Horror Story: Coven” airs every Wednesday on FX at 9:00 pm.
